Plain City is a village of about 4,000 people where Madison and Union counties meet, roughly 20 miles northwest of downtown Columbus. The Grainery sits on West Main Street in its small downtown, near the town clock that was dedicated at Route 161 and Chillicothe Street in 1902. Big Darby Creek runs right through the village. It is a long way from High Street, and that is part of the appeal.

Barbecue first, then the band

The Grainery opened as a small restaurant built around smoked barbecue. It added a back patio with a full stage, then kept growing to fit bigger crowds. It runs both an indoor stage and the outdoor patio stage, and the calendar leans hard toward country, from regional bands to touring acts with songs on country radio.

Show setups change from night to night. Some are general admission with VIP tables up front, and some are all ages. Check your ticket for what the night includes, and browse our country concerts page for more like it.

The drive out

Plain City sits where US 42 and State Route 161 cross, about nine miles past Dublin. Plan on driving, and settle on a designated driver before the first round. The ride home runs on dark country roads.

Give yourself time to park on a busy show night. A small downtown fills up faster than you think when a touring act is in town.

Tips for a Plain City night

  • Eat there. The barbecue is the reason the place exists.
  • Patio shows mean dressing for the weather, including a layer for when the sun goes down.
  • Weeknight shows here often start early by city standards. Check the time on your ticket.
  • If you like your country big and outdoors, compare a summer night at Historic Crew Stadium, where Kenny Chesney has played more than once.
